Time to wash winter away and prepare for Easter, Graduation, Mother’s Day, and Memorial Day entertaining. As you open the windows and clean off the porches you will see remnants of the winter lurking around. This is a great time to rid your home of the lurking toxins that have been infiltrating your home throughout winter. Dust mites, dead bugs, parasites, and possibly event spider webs have been hiding comfortably in your home taking up residence.

Dust bunnies are small clumps of dust that hide under furniture, in corners, under beds, and under nooks if not cleaned regularly. They are made of hair, lint, dead skin, animal hair, spider webs, dust, trash, and other debris held together by static electricity. Bugs, parasites, and dust mites can hang out in dust bunnies collecting bacteria that can be part of allergic reactions this time of year.

Dust mites are microscopic, insect-like pests that commonly live in house dust. They feed on flakes of dead skin, or dander, that are shed by people and pets. House dust mites are not parasitic nor are they capable of biting or stinging humans. Their significance as pests is due to the powerful allergens contained in the mites, their cast skins, fecal material and secretions. The mites tend to be most numerous in warm homes with high humidity like we have in the Greater Houston area.

Dust accumulates behind refrigerators, under your bed, behind the refrigerator, under the couch, behind the bookshelves, and even lamp shades. Baseboards and hardwood floors are a fun place to meet other dust bunnies for hang outs. Vacuum once a week with a high efficiency air filter to trap contaminants on both your floors and upholstered furniture. A thorough cleaning of window seals and blinds is highly recommended and included with a deep clean service. Keep a microfiber cloth handy to wipe behind electrical devices, such as a TV or computer. Use only high-quality filters on your air conditioning system changing the filters monthly. Do not invest in an ozone air filter as they do not remove the dust or airborne particles.

Great time to schedule a Deep Clean!

It’s that time of year when the Easter Bunny comes out. You don’t want the kids crawling on the floor for their Easter baskets among the dust bunnies. Kids are most vulnerable to catching something from the bacteria stored in the debris. Call a maid service so you can make memories with the Easter Bunny not the dust bunnies!
